Production trend and Stock position:

  • As per the Ministry of Agriculture first advance estimate released on September 21, 2021, groundnut – Kharif production for FY 2021-22 was 82.54 lakh metric tonne (LMT) compared to FY 2020-21 which was 85.56 LMT, down by 3.53 percent
  • Solvent Extractor Association of India (SEA) has estimated Gujarat’s Kharif Groundnut crop production at 39.94 LMT from an acreage of 19.14 Lakh ha. Gujarat’s present year’s average yield for groundnut stands at 2,087 kg/ha against the average yield of 1,897 kg/ha last year
  • For FY 2021-22 India exported 1.81 LMT of groundnut valued at ₹ 1,689.48 and imported 536.10MT valued at ₹ 4.71 crores according to Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS)
  • According to Ministry of Agriculture, the sowing acreage of Groundnut as on November 12, 2021 was for 2021-22 was 1.60 lakh hectares (lh) up by 61.62 percent compared to 0.99 lh during the corresponding period

Market commentary: Price outlook

  • The Government had increased the MSP of Groundnut by 5.21 percent to ₹ 5,550 per quintal for marketing year (MY) 2021-22 compared to ₹ 5,275 in 2020-21 to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers
  • Prices of Groundnut would trade steady to weak in immediate / short term on new crop arrival
  • Overall groundnut prices have been trading below MSP
