Weekly Arhar (Tur) Report

Current Market Developments:

  • As shown in the weekly price trend chart, Arhar (Tur) prices have been declined since last couple of weeks in major domestic spot markets.

  • Prices have declined by 4 percent in Latur, around 7 percent in Bidar and by 6 percent in Damoh.
  • So far supplies in spot markets have remained sufficient and are expected to pick up in the coming days once the new crop starts arriving.
  • However, as production is estimated to decline this year, we may see some good support to prices in the long term.
  • Market sentiments have remained bearish as regular imports from Africa and Burma have resulted in more than sufficient availability. Moreover, the demand for Tur Dal has also remained weak. Dull buying activities from mills and traders is witnessed in spot markets.
  • This year as estimated by the Ministry of Agriculture, in its 01st Advance Estimates 2022-23 Arhar (Tur) production is estimated to decline by 10.5 percent at 38.9 lakh tonnes as compared to 4.35 lakh tonnes last year during 2021-22.
  • In Maharashtra Tur production is estimated to decline by 30 percent at 9.53 lakh tonnes as against 13.65 lakh tonnes last year. Similarly, Tur production in Karnataka is also estimated to decline by 3 percent this year.
